Prints!

Prints have been growning in strength for a few seasons now, but they have exploded for 2010! I think they're such a fun alternative to solid color dresses and are so fresh and pretty for spring. It's a great way for you to show your personality and get a unique look. Nearly every big designer has at least one printed dress now, and most have dozens to chose from. How to ever choose....

Dress of the Day - Tony Bowls Evenings TBE11073

Tony Bowls Evenings gown TBE11073 is stunning evening gown that has crossed over as a prom best seller. Trust me, it's georgous in person... if this picture doesn't sell it enough. The layered skirt is so unique with a fully sequined sheer underlay - wow. Add in pretty floral embroidery, a trendy one-shoulder bodice and rich satin and you've got a winner for prom, pageant or any formal.

This one really snuck up on me, but I'm a fan!

Prom Tip #104

Wear what you like.

Trends, fashion and peer pressure play a huge role in choosing a prom dress for most girls. This is fine, as long as you never forget to choose a dress that you truly love! When you are trying on gowns, think ultimately of your comfort. Both: "how comfortable am I in this dress?" (literally can you breathe and move?) and "how do I feel in this dress?" (do you feel confident and at ease).

If you choose a dress just because it looked hot in a magazine, that doesn't mean it's really the dress for YOU. You must be able to breathe, sit, move and of dance (remember that prom is generally a dance ;))! You also want to feel like yourself, just a little fancier. Don't stray so much out of your comfort zone that you're worried about your chest hanging out, feeling exposed, or that you're dressed like a doll-or a clown. Tugging and re-adjusting your dress all night is not becoming or fun. Feeling silly won't make you have a good time either.

So, have fun, try on all kinds of dresses to find the one that really fits your body, your style, and your personality. Prom is all about having the night of your life. The dress is a big part, but enjoying yourself is the most important part!

Prom 2010 Blowing Up!

Hey ladies! I'm not sure if you've been prom shopping yet this spring, but if so, you might have noticed that prom 2010 is INSANE! Stores are super busy and that's a great thing. Prom 2009 was a little rough thanks our less than fantastic economy, but it seems that everyone is ready to party in style for 2010. If you begged, borrowed, or (heaven forbid) re-wore a dress last spring, this is your year to rock out a new, designer dress all your own. Splurge a little and create the night of your life... starting with the dress!

And hey, if you're still struggling in the cash department, there are so, so many cheap prom dresses out there so don't give up hope. You can snag an amazing dress for under $200... or even under $100. Cheap is good.

Prom Tip #103

Undergarments are your foundation.

As cheesy as that may sound, it's so true. If you find your dream prom dress, then go without the proper foundation, your look will likely go downhill. No one needs excess jiggle, bulges, or sagging. Pull it all together with a good bra and some body shaping hosiery.

We all know that Spanx are AMAZING, and they are seriously perfect for prom! Try slimming panties or hose in a variety of lengths.

If you're small chested and need to add some oompf, try sew in bra cups, stick on enhancers, or strapless bras like these. If you need to compress the chest, try a slimming cami.

You'll be glad you wore this stuff, trust me. And, you can wear it all again, so it's a great investment.

Dress of the Day - Night Moves in Black & White

If you're a black and white fan... and a little on the wild side.... then this is your dress! It's one of those no-lose styles that's really simple and flattering, but with an edge. Waves of zebra, a few spots, and a bit of sparkle - I love it!

Designer Spotlight - Blush

Out of the gates, out of no where, Blush prom came on the scene and has been blowing everyone away! It's a really beautiful prom line and it's popularity this year has been amazing. Here is their designer website. And TJ Formal is a great place to shop for these dresses if you're looking to buy.

I wasn't quite sure what I thought about the line when I first saw it, I mean the dresses are great at first glance, but the more I checked them out the more I decided that I was a fan. It's hard to pinpoint what Blush's style is exactly because they have a little of everything! Some of my favorites are the floral prints that have a handpainted look - really unique. They also have some celebrity styles that mimic those worn by stars like Miley Cyrus. I think Blush has a really great mix of simple classic styles and unique styles... a little something for everyone. So, as a whole, there isn't really a way to label Blush, in my opinion, they have a little of everything for everyone.

The best way to appreciate this line is to take a look, here are the top styles so far for 2010... scroll and enjoy!

I already mentioned the #1 style in a previous post, so jump down and take a look at that too.

What do you think of the dresses? I love, love your comments!! :)

Prom Tip # 102

Dress for YOUR body.

Ok, so this may seem like a no brainer, but it's harder to do than it sounds. You look at magazines, online, and on the racks at the prom store and see hundreds of amazing dresses that would look great... on someone. But, you have to stop and think about what will look best on you - what will flatter your figure, fit your personality, makes you comfortable, and that makes you happy!

Think about what clothing styles fit you best and try to find those elements in a dress. ie: A full skirt to hid larger hips, a mermaid shape to emphasize a small waist or a halter to support a large bust.

Remember how you want to feel on prom night. If you are self conscious about your stomach, and choose a clingy dress, you'll be uncomfortable all night and won't enjoy yourself. Choose a stiff material like taffeta with a lace-up back and cinch yourself in so you can relax and dance without fear of jiggle...ahh!

Wear what you love! Just because a dress is plastered on the cover of a magazine, doesn't mean it was meant for you. The hottest designer may have styles that just don't do a thing for your figure. Choose what YOU like, in a color that makes you light up and it will show!

I've got the scoop that there is a fantastic new tool coming to a prom dress website that will help you shop by your body type to find a dress to fit. I can't wait to try it! More details coming soon...
